Have you ever asked God to label you?

The other day I was attending a bi-weekly men’s group and one of the men challenged us to ask God what labels He would put on you.

Why labels? Aren’t labels on people bad? Isn’t that very thing that causes division in our culture already?

Not in this case. The deeper context and challenge here is to dive deeper into how God sees you. The child He created in His likeness. The one He loves and purposed with a unique calling long before you ever took your first breath.

As I took on this challenge and through prayer began to ask God how He would label me, I was blown away by what He spoke to me. The God of the Universe thinks those things about me. WOW!

Now, I am not going to share the specifics with you here, because what He had for me is not what He has for you. I can assure you though, it is well worth the exercise to come before God in prayer and find out what He truly thinks of you.

If God has taken the time to dream up a unique calling, be with you as you are formed in your mother’s womb, protect and provide for you as you grow, and constantly attempt to draw you closer, then don’t you think the labels He has for you would be worth pursuing?

After all that, and stepping into creation Himself to take the penalty for all your mistakes, do you really think those labels are going to be bad?

I challenge you, just as I was, to pursue Him and discover all that He has for you.

Genesis 1:26-27 – Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

Psalms 139:13-16 – For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

1 Peter 2:9 – But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Ephesians 1:4-5 – “even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will”

Ephesians 2:10 – For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
